Location: Bury (4 days office-based, 1 day remote) after qualifying period
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Working Pattern: Core hours 9:30am – 3:30pm
About the Role
Crown Oil Ltd is seeking a detail-oriented Software Tester to join our in-house development team.
You will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of internally developed systems across the business, supporting a range of critical operational processes. The role involves a combination of manual testing and automation, working closely with developers and stakeholders in an Agile environment.
This role is primarily office-based, with four days per week on-site in Bury (just off the M66). We offer free on-site parking and a modern, relaxed office environment.
Key Responsibilities
Testing and Quality Assurance
Perform manual testing across internal systems and applications
Design, write and maintain test cases and test scenarios
Carry out exploratory testing to identify defects and usability issues
Log, track and manage defects using Jira
Validate bug fixes and ensure appropriate regression testing is completed
Automation
Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Playwright
Identify opportunities to automate repetitive testing processes
Support the growth of automation coverage across systems
Contribute to integrating automated testing into development workflows
Collaboration
Work closely with developers throughout the development lifecycle
Review requirements to ensure clarity and testability
Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives
Provide clear feedback on quality risks and release readiness
Process Improvement
Contribute to improving QA processes, standards and tools
Support a culture of quality across the development team
Skills and Experience
Essential
Experience in manual software testing within a development environment
Strong understanding of testing methodologies (functional, regression, exploratory)
Experience writing structured test cases and clear bug reports
Experience using defect tracking tools such as Jira
Experience working in an Agile or Scrum environment
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Desirable
Exposure to automation tools such as Playwright
Experience with other automation frameworks (e.g. Cypress, Selenium)
Basic understanding of JavaScript or TypeScript
Experience in testing CRM or business systems
Experience with API testing tools such as Postman
Working Environment
