Software Tester

Location: Bury (4 days office-based, 1 day remote) after qualifying period
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Working Pattern: Core hours 9:30am – 3:30pm

About the Role

Crown Oil Ltd is seeking a detail-oriented Software Tester to join our in-house development team.

You will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of internally developed systems across the business, supporting a range of critical operational processes. The role involves a combination of manual testing and automation, working closely with developers and stakeholders in an Agile environment.

This role is primarily office-based, with four days per week on-site in Bury (just off the M66). We offer free on-site parking and a modern, relaxed office environment.

Key Responsibilities

Testing and Quality Assurance

• Perform manual testing across internal systems and applications

• Design, write and maintain test cases and test scenarios

• Carry out exploratory testing to identify defects and usability issues

• Log, track and manage defects using Jira

• Validate bug fixes and ensure appropriate regression testing is completed

Automation

• Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Playwright

• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive testing processes

• Support the growth of automation coverage across systems

• Contribute to integrating automated testing into development workflows

Collaboration

• Work closely with developers throughout the development lifecycle

• Review requirements to ensure clarity and testability

• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups and retrospectives

• Provide clear feedback on quality risks and release readiness

Process Improvement

• Contribute to improving QA processes, standards and tools

• Support a culture of quality across the development team

Skills and Experience

Essential

• Experience in manual software testing within a development environment

• Strong understanding of testing methodologies (functional, regression, exploratory)

• Experience writing structured test cases and clear bug reports

• Experience using defect tracking tools such as Jira

• Experience working in an Agile or Scrum environment

• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

Desirable

• Exposure to automation tools such as Playwright

• Experience with other automation frameworks (e.g. Cypress, Selenium)

• Basic understanding of JavaScript or TypeScript

• Experience in testing CRM or business systems

• Experience with API testing tools such as Postman
