Paul

OFTEC Tank & Oil Specialist

Previous industry experience

Before starting at Crown Oil, I worked in the recruitment industry, as well as in telesales briefly after graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University.

Current position and length of service

I first joined Crown Oil as a Sales Executive, but I now look after a fleet of over 30 hire tanks and managing small-scale environmental projects and am also responsible for fuel tank sales. I have been given a lot of responsibility and trust in my 7 years with the business. Although the role is hard and challenging, I am supported very well by the management team.

What’s it like to work at Crown Oil?

Brilliant. Fun. Challenging. Supportive. Work hard, play hard.

I’ve worked at Crown Oil for 7 years, and on a personal level I have always felt supported by everyone at the business. There is a genuine care for people and a want to see you progress and become the best you can be. Crown Oil is infamous for the nights out and events, with a focus on celebrating everyone’s hard work. We have been very fortunate to be taken to the races every year, with a fantastic annual dinner. I am truly happy here.

How have you developed both professionally and personally during your period of employment?

As touched upon already, I have been given a lot of trust and responsibility since I started at Crown Oil and have been given the help and support when needed to develop my abilities. I have a lot more knowledge in the industry and have been given time to learn. Plus, I’ve been fortunate enough to be invited to attend numerous training courses to develop my professional skills – I am now OFTEC registered for example.

In your experience, what does it take both professionally and personally to be successful at Crown Oil?

I think Crown Oil looks for ‘good’ people and I don’t mean the best salesperson; I mean genuinely good people that have a good heart and are willing to put the effort in to gain the rewards. If you put the work in, Crown Oil will always look after you.

You must be a people person, great communicator and a team player, that doesn’t take yourself too seriously. But overall, you need to care.

In your experience, what does it take both professionally and personally to be successful at Crown Oil?

Account Manager

Previous industry experience

Before starting at Crown Oil, I worked in a call centre at O2 for 11 years. However, I wanted a new challenge and had a few friends that worked at Crown Oil so decided to take the plunge. I currently work as an account manager/sales representative.

What’s it like to work at Crown Oil?

I’ve worked at Crown Oil for just over 9 years, the staff, the culture and the working environment are what makes the job so enjoyable. I had not done sales as such when I first started at the business, so I was a little apprehensive. However, the support from colleagues and management helped me grow and gain my confidence, which in turn has contributed to my success within the company!

As well as my normal job, I also take part in various other roles at Crown Oil and work alongside a group of colleagues on the Charity Committee. This involves a lot of charity and volunteering work within the local community. Crown Oil is very big on community spirit and it’s extremely rewarding to work for a company that gives so much back to local causes and businesses.

The office is very friendly, fun, and everyone is always there to offer a helping hand.

Fuel Solutions Specialist

Previous industry experience

Before starting at Crown Oil Environmental, I worked in construction recruitment for 10 years.

Current position and length of service

I currently work as a fuel solutions consultant and have been with the business for 18 months.

What’s it like to work at Crown Oil Environmental?

Without question, Crown Oil Environmental is the best place I’ve worked. Working hard, increasing my opportunities month on month while laughing and joking 9 to 5 which is refreshing in a sales environment.

What does a typical day look like?

A typical day for myself would be catching up with customers that I haven’t spoken to in a while. Then I usually have a few quotes to write and Microsoft Teams calls to arrange with clients that are ready to place an order or that just need some extra guidance before they proceed. My favourite part of my role is going out to sites to meet new and old clients face-to-face.

How have you developed both professionally and personally during your period of employment?

I thought after 10 years in sales I couldn’t be taught anything else but with the guidance and advice from my manager and director, I’m making waves in an industry that only 18 months ago I didn’t know existed. I think personally working here has made me connect with so many people that I probably wouldn’t have met normally. Crown Oil Environmental has a great mixture of people from all walks of life from various backgrounds and age groups.

In your experience, what does it take both professionally and personally to be successful at Crown Oil?

It’s probably a bit of a cliché but the old saying ‘work hard, play hard’ really does suit the culture here.

Listen to the people that have been here since the start to learn and grow – and don’t take yourself too seriously. We are at work more than we are at home so we may as well enjoy it!
